Thanks everybody for your input, I have a lot of research now before my trip to Colorado Springs in Sept. Keep'em coming so I can get a good comparison before I buy. I see there are a lot of good trailers out there to chose from, looks like my work is cut out for me now.

Tx_Rider. Yes the Tundra with 381 hp and 401 ft. lbs of torque is more than my 07 Ram 3/4 Quad Cab hemi was rated. The Ram was rated to tow a little over 12K lbs. The Tundra is rated for 10.3K lbs.

Also the Ram with the live front axle and 8' box weighed in at 6.5K and the Trundra at about 4.5 K. When you factor in the 6spd with 4.30:1 rear axle in the Tundra against the 5 spd Ram with 4:10:1 rear end there was no contest in which one would get up to speed faster.

I use a load equalizing hitch with two sway bars.

The Tundra gets 14 mpg towing against the Ram's 9-10. I prefer 3/4 trucks but made the switch for gas mileage.

I have been towing big boats, campers and trailers since the 60's and the Tundra surprised me at it's capability.

I wanted to post a pic with the quad cab 8 foot box of the Ram and the hitch set up but Photo Bucket changed it's format again and I can not get it to respond to the share button.

If you ask which one I like best I will say that my most favorite truck ever was the big Ram. I just needed more mpg and garage space for the 12 other vehicles in the garage.

It works today so here goes.

My only suggestion would be if you have the right tow vehicle, dont skimp on the size. A little extra room inside is good and the price is minimal when going up a size usually. I have an American Hauler, 7x12 tandem axel v-nose with 2 bike-pro chocks. I can get 2 baggers in but it is tight, but when only towing one bike it is not alot of trailer to tow. I have a GMC with the 5.3L and it handles it just fine. Just traded up to a 2011 Ram with the Hemi. Havent picked it up yet so cant comment on the performance there...will find out on the way to Daytona. But like I said my experience is if you can, go bigger than you think you want.

It's not a problem as he has the room to move it back. With the 5x8 I won't have that luxury. Maybe it's not an issue with the 5x8.

Rick
I wouldnt get to hung up on a bit too much tongue weight. This is a rather light weight total in compared to larger, heavy loaded trailers where 10 percent is probably more than your whole set up weighs. Better too much tongue weight than negative tongue weight. No that will take you for a ride.

So without spending a lot of time on the RV sites; wonder what it would cost per month to live in a big ol' RV and pull the biggest trailer possible behind it (gotta have a little shop room) I have often thought about selling out and buying a rig like that and just traveling around until my health stops me, then renting a little ol' apartment close to the hospital and senior center and sittin' on the porch until the good Lord calls me home. Would be fun while it lasted I'll bet!

I'm not sure how many single axle trailers have brakes but I think most of the tandem ones do. Nice option if you plan to haul two bikes. I love my 7x12 w/3' v-nose (15') Horton hauler. Once the bikes are out it fits a queen size air mattress no problem.

I would have to disagree with the torsion bar suspension. Smoothest ride available. I have a 7x15 Wedge nose that i used for work (commercial refrigeration) which was loaded to the max for 130,000 miles With no problems. Often ran interstate speeds + and couldn't tell it was there. Replaced wheel bearings every 50k just as a precaution. Still have it. Much better quality than a haulmark or that crap Lo**s sells.
