Default Getting Back Rest Installed

Ok, bought a 2010 Ultra with a standard rider back rest already on it. Took it off to put charger leads on battery (that was fun!) and now, can't for the life of me get the back rest back on. It sits so deep under the seat and towards the back I can't get enough grip on the bars to pinch them together so they will slip into the holder. Am I missing a trick? Any suggestions appreciated!

Jay

Work at it. Use your right hand to pull the slot open, see the slot that the back rest has to go into and squeeze and insert with left hand.

using all the same mounting holes on the backrest bracket?

if you aren't sure, look for marks from previous bolts/nuts in the other holes

not sure how your seat attaches. but on my RKC stock seat, I have to pinch the seat back by sliding one hand under the seat - before the seat is bolted down.

If you are referring to the one with the two rods and a spring in the middle I turn my hand so my palm is facing the rear. Squeeze the parts together then slide it down. You are right about not having a lot of room. You can also get one side in then the opposite. Just take your time.

I push the rods together with one hand and then slip both hands down through the opening to help find the bracket. Once I find the bracket and get it positioned properly I take the hand not squeezing the bars out and slide the backrest rods in. It is an acquired skill.

remember the mounting bracket with the slot and holes is not straight down it is kind of on a angle toward the rear of the seat.
