Stopped by the dealer today to price a set of reachback bars for the EG. Wow! All I wanted was for them to be an inch or two closer to me when I am leaning against the backrest. My dealer said it would be about "1200 dollars" to put them on. New brake line, new clutch cable, new throttle gizmo, labor, etc, etc, etc. I about sh**!
I think I am talented enough to do it myself. Still kicking that idea around. They told me six hours labor. I think I could do it in about eight or nine.
I put on a set of KW ergo bars on my 04 flhtc and it was simple and no new cables or wires needed. I also just put a set of new bars on my 2011 RGU and it was even easier with the tbw. The eg fairing is easier to take off and on then the RG but neither is difficult. If you can change oil you can change handle bars.
Get a set of Khromewerks 300515's for about $70 and a 38649-08 clutch cable for $34 and a 36805-06 side cover gasket for $5.15 and do the work yourself.
Another vote for doing it yourself. I've never been impressed with either Chester's HD or Chandler HD for their prices, not by a longshot. Retired out here from the Corps in 2000, and have used both over the years. Go for it yourself, and if you need assistance, let me know. I just purchased an 07 RK w/16's, and I'm waiting for it to be delivered. If those bars are a bit tall, and I'm thinking they might be, I'll be doing the same thing you are in a few weeks.
Installed w/o 502's on my rg about a month ago....197 for the bars and brake and clutch cable about 125.oo. Did not have to extend any controls wires at all. Took about 7 hours but had to get wifey to help my record the color of the wires when removing/replacing in the plugs. I am about half *** color blind (ignorant). I would ask her what color a wire was and she would say "teal...with a olive stripe" . Wtf. I only thought there was 8 basic colors...lol. Anyway an easy but slow job. Take your time and you can do it no problem.....
