I just bought a 2001 RK carb model. So far I get 38mpg. It has a high flow air filter and exhaust upgrade. I think its running a bit rich. When the weather warms up Im going to recalculate it and check the a/f ratio. It may need to be leaned out a little. The mileage should go up then.
I get 32-38 on my 2008 Ultra doesn't seem to matter where or how fast, one up or 2 up for that matter. Plug colors look great too. It's low I hear but I'm still happy.
Good luck.
I kept a log of the gas mileage for the first two years I owned my 2007 Road King Police. 52 MPG from Mountain Grove, Missouri to Jonesboro, Arkansas. 36 MPG bar hopping around town. I average 42 MPG day to day riding. I have noticed that if the bike sits 7 or 8 days the gas mileage will go down.
My overall average since the 103" build is 39mpg; however, I have seen as low as 32mpg during the winter when riding in traffic and taking short trips around town and as high as 42mpg when doing a 300 mile ride last summer. I always use premium and can definitely tell the difference between summer blend verses winter blend.
I've spent an inordinate amount of time tweaking the PCV on my '07 SG, and these are typical mileage figures in summer riding running E10 gas and no headwind or tailwind.
Subtract 1-2 mpg in winter and add 1-2 mpg using pure gasoline (no ethanol). My highest highway mileage was 50.5 on the backroads in the Texas Hill Country and lowest 40 mpg on the I-10 with a 20mph headwind.
I'm happy with the mileage I'm getting now, except for city, and I have not been able to get that up as high as I would like. Highway mileage is about as good as I think this bike can do.
