Wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between the HD Premium Stereo Helmet Headset (part# 77147-98A) and the HD Premium Stereo Helmet Headset (part# 77147-98) is?
The "98A" came with my 2010 Ultra. I needed another one and picked it up on eBay... the seller said it fit my Ultra and (my bad) I didn't notice that the "A" was not in the part number.
The only visible difference is that the windsocks are a bit different in size and shape and the connectors going to each headset (although still 7 pin) are different in size. The connectors going to the bike are the same size.
My headset came in a plain white box and indicates that it was made in China. The headset I got from eBay came in a much more detailed box (like you might get off the rack at the dealer) and indicates that it was assembled in America from parts made in japan, China and Germany.
Both seem to work so there doesn't really seem to be an issue, but I was still wondering about the different part numbers... Maybe I have too much time on my hands...
The letter added to any Harley part means its the newer of the of the 2 numbers. If they change something, the new version will be the A/B/C or whatever......
I also bought a 77147-98 headseat off eBay for my passenger to use. You mentioned the minor updates to the 77147-98A that comes with a new bike. The best thing for me was that I paid less than half the price of the newer unit!
