Yes you can get replacement inserts. The one for the FLHX ran about 30.00 when I was looking to do mine. I ended up doing mother of pearl instead. gave it a nice custom touch.
There is also a company that makes glass inserts that are sick as hell, but I cant remember their name right now.
Got them on Ebay. Here is a link to the seller. He doesnt have anything for sale right now though. Not sure what the deal is.
I also googled California Custom Parts and the store front is closed for some reason (says maintenance) but ya know how that goes, might be on vacation, might be out of business.

Actually, there is nothing cheap looking or feeling about it. For HD accessories, it is pretty good stuff. Here is a pic of my 2010 RK with one installed.
