Default Screaming Eagle Street Tuner ok for me?

I am about to purchase a 2011 Road King Classic. I'm wanting to do a stage one (screaming eagle) and then samson true duals (longtails). And thats about it for the engine. I'm not a gear head. The power I get out of this engine is all I will ever want. I don't plan on doing any big bore, cam etc. stuff.
I have read on here that everyone says to get the SE Pro tuner, after talking to the Parts guy at HD dealer he initially advised the Pro tuner but then when i asked him about it voiding my ECM warranty he confirmed it would. (I'm concerned about this especially with a new bike) This is when he offered up the Street tuner for what I want from the engine. He said if I dont ever plan on doing other mods then the street tuner would be fine for me and they could get it tuned right.

So would I be ok with the Street Tuner for my application ?

Couldnt get this answered in the search.

Thanks guys!

From what I understand, all they do with the street tuner is download a map to your ECM while still staying EPA compliant so I think you would be wasting your money.

Is there a big "risk" going with the Race tuner? Anyone heard of any issues with it messing up the ECM? obviously i'm concerned i'll have issues with the ECM on a brand new bike and them blaming it on the Race tuner and my warranty being shot.

Maybe you should check with another dealer. I think most will honor the warranty with the the race tuner because its an HD product. My dealer did anyway... and like someone else said, I think the street tuner is a farce and on top of that, I'd almost bet that eventually you'll want to make more mods. The rarest Harley is a stock one.

I have read countless threads on the different types of race tuners and I have never heard of one messing up the ECM.

I know its a bit more money, but since u are changing out your headpipes why not think maybe a thundermax? It is a replacement ecm auto tune setup no dyno needed. May cost a tad more but if u do the work yourself it may end up costing u about the same amount as the dealer doing everything. Just a thought

read that all wrong, the offical word from harley, performance parts for off road use void warrentie.if your dealer says it doesnt ask for that in writing.street tuner is for street use,but worthless.it will however keep your warrenie safe with pipes.u can use that then add ied"s they come off in about 3 minutes b4 u go to dealer for work.

Cant see how the street tuner would be any "Safer" than the Race tuner. Neither replaces or piggybacks onto your ECM, they just provide the connection and software to load maps or dyno tune (race tuner). Nothing stays attactched to your bike with either one.

Street tuner will load EPA compliant maps for HD parts only.

Race tuner/Super tuner/Pro tuner/whatever they call it THIS year tuner... will allow for any maps to be loaded, and dyno tuning.

Theres only about $100 between the 2 as I recall. Personally, I think the Street tuner is total bullshit! It does NOTHING that they didn't used to do, WITHOUT any extra hardware/expense. They used to just download a canned map to your bike, no extra hardware needed.

I see the Street Tuner as nothing but:

A product that allows them to prove to the EPA that they can sell you pipes and intakes, and reprogram the ECM for them, but stay EPA compliant because the box wont allow for anything other than parts that ARE EPA compliant. (Harleys pipes/intakes) The EPA was probably on their *** about selling pipes/intakes/cams because while the parts are EPA compliant, most guys used methods for tuning for them that were not.

I would be willing to bet, that the EPA told HD to either offer a street legal, EPA compliant tuner, or stop selling pipes/intakes/cams.

All the other options out there, HD and otherwise, would allow for tunes that are not EPA compliant.

Remember, that HD probably has to play by rules that aftermarket companies do not.

Having said that, Id like to see them try and void the warranty on a Race Tuner equipped bike, IF EPA parts are used, and a EPA compliant map was loaded with it. In other words, nothing different than would be done with a Street Tuner.

In your case, the sampson headers/pipes will probably toast your warranty in their eyes anyway, so who cares? Not to mention, I promise you they wont have an HD EPA compliant map for that combination of parts, and you'll wind up dyno tuning the thing anyway to make it run good.

You need to talk to the SERVICE guys, not the parts guys.

It is illegal to void any warranty because of the changing of exhaust. This is a federal law which supersedes anything from any state. this applies to all vehicles. This does not have anything about sound. Just our .02
Thank you,
