Default Oil Temperature Gauge

I am installing the oil temp gauge, but the instructions say to use Loctite 565 thread sealant. My local Autozone doesn't have it, but I do have some Loctite 242, some teflon tape, and some pipe thread compound. Is it really necessary for the 565 or can I use the 242, or just teflon tape?

My project is in progress, right now, need help ASAP.

Teflon tape will do..(The yellow one as it is for fuel and oil environment.) That is all I used with no loctite.

Default Process

Steps: 1: get some loctite 565
2. drain oil, change filter
3. Remove the hex head pipe plug next to oil drain plug
4. Install pipe thread adapter using loctite 565
5. Install elect temp sender into pipe adapter using loctite 565
6. tighten to spec
7. Remove front fairing
8. Remove the air temp gauge
9. replace with the new oil temp gauge
10. Hook up wires, test.
11. Reinstall the front fairing.

Now this is simplified, and torque values have been omitted as I am at the computer and not in the garage. Looks pretty simple but didn't know about the loctite 565.

Just came from Autozone and they didn't have a clue about yellow teflon tape. Bought some Permatex med strength threadlocker, which I think is similar to loctite, but may not be the right stuff. Max temp for what I bought is 300 degrees F, and i think the oil temp goes higher than that.

I could be wrong but if your oil temp. is in excess of 300 degrees I think you may have problems.

Locktite 565 is same as permatex red sealant - you'll want to use it for high-temp & strength...

Are you installing the gauge from power toys? As, they don't recommend tape. http://www.parts4powertoys.com/OilTe...e_Details.html

Btw. Has anyone installed the gauge above? Any issues with leaks?
