Pulled mine off before I left the dealer when purchased new, put on the HD cover for like $18 and love it. Second bike like that, never had a shaft problem.....Or anything with the shifter linkage!!
if you're pretty good with a drill press, you can make your own spacer to take up the room that your rear shift lever used. take apart an old brake caliper, and you'll find aluminum pistons. bore out the center, and you've got a great spacer that looks trick. be sure to bore with the piston of the caliper with the opening at the top where the bit contacts it. drilling from the other side would not ensure that your hole would be on center.
i'm sorry, the aluminum pucks don't come from a brake caliper, but rather a wheel cylinder from a car's brake system. there are two of them that push the brake linings out to the drums. an old drum brake system uses those.

I don't see where the OP is asking if he should buy it. He clearly asks if "you " would buy it.
I bought a real nice chrome spacer from a true value hdwe store(in speciality drawers)for like 3.00 and had a rubber bushing that fit over the end of it. So, no there are cheaper alternatives and if you have a Menard's or Home Depot or True Value around go look in their speciality bolt section and see what you can find. I know I saw spacers at Menard's the other day, stainless steel for like 4.00..
