You didn't over react in my opinion. I would have walked as well. If you can't ask your mechanic a legitimate question without him getting all snarky with you, it's time to find another wrench. You're the one paying and you have every right to discuss other alternatives without putting up with all his BS.
The world has gone non confrontational. Email, text, voicemail. So much can be mis interpreted. I don't think the OP over reacted but I would rather do bizz face to face. More fun calling em an azzhole when it's justified.
Well if he was a GREAT Surgeon you would say he has "NO BEDSIDE MANNER" and those guys get a great nurse to do that work? I think you both did not handle it right BUT I am on your side he never should have put the Hammer down and insult you like that, he could have handle it better.
Now you have to find someone who will do great work at a reasonable rate ? I bet you will find a few by you and you can start a new relationship with him.
You spend good money and you should get good service and he did not give you that, he only did half the job being courteous is part of it and he had none of that.
Good Luck with your new mechanic
Did you over react? Sounds more like he dumped you, before you dumped him. LOL
It likely wasn't "just" the insult of not trusting his recommendation over some strangers recommendation that you "read about".
It was likely the "cheap out" portion as well. No one likes to work for nothing and when a customer is hounding him to do it for less, that customer is no longer valuable. (Money is tight for him too).
I ain't tryin' to make this sound like you did anything wrong.
What I am trying to do is make some sense of his actions. Two sides in everything.
If he's got other work to fill his time, he don't need the piddly stuff.
And if he's any good, right now will be a busy time for him.
If he is the only game in town, he's got more room for the attitude. LOL
i'm with this guy. Your reaction didn't matter because this guy was firing you. Based on his really high price structure he must be pretty good and felt like, how dare you not trust his recommendation? (which was right on target BTW)
Yeah maybe you can find another good wrench. Depending on your location, maybe not. Maybe you just screwed up a really good thing - not by your reaction, but by trying trying to go cheap and not trusting him over what you'd read elsewhere. If you have other options, at least you won't have to worry about paying higher prices because you were right there at the top.
your bike, your money, if you ask him to pour jello in the crankcase he should advise you against it but in the end it should be your decision.
I wrenched on cars for a lot of years and have seen people make some monumental mistakes with choosing parts, but if they stuck to their guns I installed the parts. I was there to take their money, so I did what I was asked and collected my paycheck. I also got the hell out of that particular service industry when I could no longer stand the people asking for weird and stupid things.
So the mechanic I have gone to for 8 years, as long as I have been riding pissed me off the other day and I want some opinions to see if I am justified or over reacting. I have spent over 10k at this indy shop over 3 bikes. He is old school and does fantastic work, but he is salty as hell, its always like everything is a pain in the *** with this guy and he is being bothered. So fast forward to this winter he did an s&s 95 kit on my 05 flhrs and was recommending a 510 cam gear driven and replacing the push rods to adjustable. For the cams he wanted 1600 and the roller rocker arms like 500. Money is a little tight so I sent him an email asking if there was a cheaper way to go about this, maybe stay chain on the cams, also asked about a cam that would give a little more bang for the buck, cuz o read the 510 is really mild.. He sends me a pissy message back saying he gave me his recommendation already and wouldnt answer the question again, that I could probably get it done cheaper elsewhere, and there I could put in whatever cam I wanted. I told him he was done getting my business. Did I over react?
I agree with you.Get rid of him. He's doesn't dictate to you what you want in your bike. You write the checks not him!!! Find yourself another good mechanic who doesn't bitch!!!
