I am sure there are plenty of other qualified mechanics out there that would love to have your business and offer you suggestions for your bike. If the guy is treating you that bad it won't be long until he's closing his doors and all his customers are going elsewhere. Good luck with your mods.
He asked me to call him, but I'm just done, the ratio of saltiness to experience just got out of whack. I can tell u in 8 years this is the first time I asked him if there was a way to approach the project differently to save a few bucks. I found a highly rated indie shop just as close, that gets high marks for service. Having been in the restaurant business for 15 years I know what a difficult client is, and its not me. I think this guy is just so busy and has been doing it for too long, he works on the bikes, answers the phones, everything, its too bad, but there is only so much I van accept.
Sometimes people who are real good at what they do are opinionated
azzholes because they're results oriented and passionate about what they do..It ain't worth doing if it ain't gonna be done right.
Screw e-mail,texts,etc,etc...talk to the guy face to face and see what's up.Too damn much impersonal cyber communicating going on these days.
hey it's your money to spend however and wherever you choose. his recommendation on the gear drive for the cams is okay, but for your 05 model it can be easily upgraded for the drive system for the cams via the newer hydraulic system which is a great improvement over stock. as far as his recommendations for cam choice, it's what he would choose if it were his bike apparently. yeah, 510's are pretty mild and there are better choices out there. if it's your money, then you're the one making the choices as to what goes into your motor. if he's got an "attitude" then that attitude would have run me off too.
Naw I don't think you over-reacted at all. You said in your OP that he was salty and everything was a bother. It sounds to me like he's had enough of the business and doesn't really care about his customers needs.
This can also lead to shoddy work on his part as in "not give a ch1t" anymore....
On the other hand everyone has a bad day once in a while and the timing may have wrong-- but if he's been like this for a while it's more than a "bad day".
I don't think you over reacted... and I don't think you need roller rockers for a .510" lift cam(save $500.)...$1600 for a cam install sure seems like a high price to pay for about a 4hr job.... I think you need a new wrench.
