Good morning, RG.......

I can relate; somewhat, to what you have written. I also had been dealing with an INDY whom I considered above average in his line of work. He had done work for me previously, and although not perfect, his work was acceptable and his time frames were great.
I needed to have new cam tensioners installed. He did the work. I got the bike back and the bike is now running 20 degrees hotter than before. Good folks on this site suggested that the oil pump wasn't aligned properly when it was re-installed (oil sumping). I asked him to revisit the work he had done - no way would he do that. That was enough for me. Like you, I had dealt with this mechanic for several years and had paid him lots of CASH.
When somebody is unwilling to check their work that leads me to believe they are either arrogant or ______
I do agree with you finding somebody else; I just wish that my community was large enough to offer more choices - however that's another issue.

This thread calls to mind something that's becoming more prevalent today - the reluctance, and in some cases avoidance, of good old personal contact. It seems many people opt for email or text messages over a phone conversation or face-to-face communications these days. Sometimes these alternate forms of interpersonal communications can be misinterpreted.

Anyway, to the OP... hope you find a good wrench.

It’s always amazed me how some entrepreneurs can not figure out they should never get mad at their money and **** on it. It’s a common problem nowadays.

Just like everything else, though, there’s always someone who’s just as qualified or better that would be elated just to submit an estimate.

Screw that arrogant wrenched bastid; time to move on…

I don't think your mistake was overreacting, I think your mistake was doing this by email. Maybe he'd just dealt with the customer from hell who said he could get it cheaper online, and now here you are trying to second guess him after he has done a good job for years. No way to know by email. Maybe he skipped over the part where you wrote that money is tight. Again, no way to know. This should have been done face to face, or at least over the phone. Email is best left for questions that can be answered "yes/no", or to pass along facts.

Meanings sometimes get lost or misinterpreted in emails. I prefer to talk to someone face to face. Then I can judge their meaning but how they talk, expressions, etc. The fact that you're asking the question if you did the wrong thing means that:
a)- you're doubting your self and how you interpreted it
b)- you think this guy is world class mechcanic and you have to put up with his saltiness
c)- you think beacuse you dropped $$$ he should be nicer to you
Looks like you burnt the bridge already...too late now for could have beens or should have beens...

I still wanna know what ratio those rockers were going to be.

While I am aware that the best way to achieve lift is with the cam itself, I am intrigued by some of the results I have seen from people experimenting with rocker ratios.

This dude might have been on to something.

Perhaps the OP quit reading this thread?

Good Call!! I would not pay someone a dime if they did not respect what you asked of them as a customer. That's the problem nowadays, a lot of people think you have to do business with them. There is always someone just as good or better that wants your business and will treat you as such. I'd rather bite off my nose to spite my face then give my money to people who think I have to. I use to use an Indy who would come to your house and do the work and was very reasonable; the guy had such a negative attitude on life that I could not take his bitching moaning and negativity anymore--I now go to the indy about 10 miles from house -- he is slow as heck and scratched my painted inner fairing (without telling me) but I will use him again

He is old school and does fantastic work, but he is salty as hell, its always like everything is a pain in the *** with this guy and he is being bothered. So fast forward to this winter he did an s&s 95 kit on my 05 flhrs and was recommending a 510 cam gear driven and replacing the push rods to adjustable. For the cams he wanted 1600 and the roller rocker arms like 500. Money is a little tight so I sent him an email asking if there was a cheaper way to go about this, maybe stay chain on the cams, also asked about a cam that would give a little more bang for the buck, cuz o read the 510 is really mild.. He sends me a pissy message back saying he gave me his recommendation already and wouldnt answer the question again, that I could probably get it done cheaper elsewhere, and there I could put in whatever cam I wanted. I told him he was done getting my business. Did I over react?
