I have Hawg Wired fairng speakers and amp. I my need to upgrade if I want to add speakers to the lowers. I have Sony HU that I got from Biketronics. I have had nothing but issues with it. Biketonics told me to try the reset button or send it to Sony. (not happy with them)
FFric, I doubt you "need" a marine unit. Tons of non-marine HU's have been used with the BT and Hawg-wired modules w/o issues, including the basic Sony HU I had on my bike for 4 years with the BT module, etc. That Sony got wet many, many times while parked and the only thing I ever did was wipe the contacts with a Q-tip and alcohol from time to time.
OP, why not buy the speakers you plan to use with the RF amp now, rather than replace what you buy now with something better in a couple of months?
You're on the right track in matching the impedance of the speakers to the amp; in this case, 4 ohms. Since that's the same impedance as the head unit, no problem with buying the good speakers now.
Other then the Sony HU that I bought for my SG I haven't looked at HU since my teens. I wouldn't know what to look for anymore. Would an Alpine be a good way to go?
