Default problem with bike-HELP

I need help my 04 flhti I found out Sunday is showing the security system icon (red key) on the speedometer and stays on, and I don't have a security system. Plus the check engine light also stays on I am wondering if and one here on HDF has any idea on what my problem is or how to fix it .I called dealer they said to bring it in they would hook it up to a computer. Only problem -(1) there 50 miles away( 2) they are prodicting snow later this week (3) I am very busy at work this time of year 55 to 60 hours a week. And I really don't want to find out it is some kind of E-Z fix that I can handel. Thank -you for any help that you my be able to give me . John

There was a post a few days ago regarding this same issue on an '06. Another member replied that he had that problem on his '04 or '05 Road King. The problem if I remember correctly was with the speedometer and turn signal. Do a search and find the thread.

Had The same Problem with my 02 RK. It turned out to the be tssm module. It was sending a false code. The dealer said if I had not fixed it The bike would have shut down

Unless it's a burned out turn signal which would throw a code (a blinking security lamp, not one that's always on), the only way you'll find out what's up is to have the code read by HD. I know that's not what you want to hear, but, that's where we are with ECM's, computers, etc.

Ted is right. There are so many things that can turn on the check engine light, it needs to be hooked up and have the code read to find the root cause of the problem.

If you have a red key, you have a security system. It may well be your turn signal security module has gone bad.

Thanks for the input guys. I will have to find time this fall or next spring . Yes this is one of the nasty side effects of hi-tech you need a computer to fix it! Funny how something can go crazy like that ,this bike hasn't been road in 3or4 weeks locked in the garage and now the thing is srcewed up . Well thank again for your in put! John
