Compact Tent
Cooking, sleeping bags, road gear? REI has about the best stuff while it is a little more expensive they always take it back and its usually very high quality. You can try military stores for some camping stuff. Get a roll for the sleeping bag it will save the back.

I haven't read it all yet, but it seems to be on the right track.
Here's another one.

I'm also considering the hammock route and will post some questions in a separate thread.
All of them were inexpensive ( meaning not REI) and came from kmart or costco...80% REI quality, 25% cost.
Can you give up that 20% quality-?
MOST tents will fold up pretty small and tiny- I have a big 1 man/small 2 man that straps to my saddlebag lid rack pretty good.
The part to think about packing are the poles, they can only fold up so much, and you may find that the great tent with 4' pole sections isn't so easy to tie on the bike.
A sturdy base panel that won't be punctured by a small stone or stick, and rain and ventilation control are considerations.
-and how much crap you want to carry.
when solo I have the small tent, sleeping bag, solar led lights ( that recharge while I ride) a thermarest pad ( the narrow one rolls up inside my saddlebag.
I don't bother with cooking gear- I grab coffee at the KOA in the morning and food as i go. I carried cooking stuff and never used it.
But carry no-cook snacks in case the one restaurant in town closes at 7:30 pm

mkguitar, Which solarLED lights do you use?

A pal of mine distributes those cheap wind up flashlights- he gave me 2 of them with the crank ( was noisy) and solar panels, they work fine. I have them in a clear heavy vinyl envelope ( I think wife's swim suit came in it) that I tie on top of the load. They charge while I ride.
