Ok I am kind get scared off the 07 because of the tranny noise everyone is talking about. Any happy 2007 SG owners, how big a problem is this, I barely got in 6th gear on my test drive.
I have an 06. I can't speak on the noise on the 07's, but I can tell you that if you buy a StreetGlide, you will be sorry. Sorry you didn't do it sooner. I love mine.
I will be Sorry? Kinda contridicting, sounds like you like it I've road all kind of bikes over the years my last bike was and XL 1200 which I am keeping. Thanks for the reply
Damn I must be drunk contradicting and Rode geez
I moved up from an old 100 Sportster. I gave it to my son. I will say that the sporty is more fun to ride when I am feeling frisky, but the SG sure does hold its own. Glad you are keeping the sporty. Good luck. Oh, and welcome to the Forum. If you don't get many hits on this post tonight, just bump it to the top in the morning. I am sure some guys will give you some good info.
I was having the same dilema as you but I decided that for one, a used SG was just about the same cost as an 07 and what the hell, it has a warranty. So I bought an 07 SG. Glad I did. No tranny noise so far. Only have 200 miles on it right now. I was also thinking that if I bought an 06, I would regret not getting the bigger motor and 6 speed in the 07. Anotherthing for me is, I do road trips a few times a year and the 6 speed was a big selling point for me. My buddy said he is always trying to shift one more time on his RK when on the interstate. I hit about 3000 rpm at 80 mph. Good luck, ROOP
I am absolutely THRILLED with my '07 Road King Classic. Yes, it's true that 5th gear is a little noisier than the others. But after 2500 miles it has quieted down a bit and I have gotten used to it. I don't consider it to be a technical flaw, just a characteristic of that transmission. This is a fantastic bike, and the 6-speed transmission and additional engine displacement are exciting technology increments that I believe will be enthusiastically accepted once the recent purchasers of '06 models get done licking their wounds and belly-aching. (Oops - probably just got slammed!)
' 07 Road King here also........a little noiser than the other gears ( they claim its because of the " Cut " of the gear )
Nothing you cant live with and teh bike is FAN-DAMN-TASTIC......go fer it I hear it quiets down after bout 2000-3000 miles .
I hae an 07 SG with 3400 miles and am mostly satisfied with the bike. Absolutely no problems with my tranny or engine. Minor issue are it is too quiet, can't tell if it is in 4th, 5th, or6th without looking at tach. 6th gear light against silver gauge face is difficult to see in sunlight. The last thing is the crappy air temp gauge they continue to use, I live in the desert and it is usually 20 degrees off so I took it out and put in an oil temp gauge.
The bike has so much potential! Within a few months enough info will be out to make it a great performing 103 or larger that will really bring a smile to your face. It performs better out of the crate than any stock HD I have ever owned and this is my third new bike in the last 6 years.
If the only thing you are worried about is the tranny noise go out and buy it. Who cares if it makes a little noise. Don't all Harley's make a little noise. Hell, most of us change our exhaust to make more noise anyway right? I have an 06 and love it. I say go for it. If there is something mechanically wrong with the tranny you would hope that the Moco would fix it with the warranty. I bought my SG knowing the problems it had (brake squeel, wind buffeting, injectors). I just got the problems fixed and it is a great bike. I don't think I would trade it for another bike.
07 SG & I love it. I went from Buell, to V-Rod, to Springer CLassic, to the SG & I wouldn't go back. No issues to report with the bike to date. I do agree with the air temp guage...useless!
