Yes without doubt! Any time you get more air through the air box the already lean running Harley will only runn leaner. To prove my point buy a new set of spark plugs and install them once you have everything installed. Now take it for a 20 mile ride. I bet your plugs will remain snow white all the way to the bottom of the electrode. Your plugs should show some tanning if it is running correctly.
I guess I got too far off base trying to demonstrate my points, and my apologies to mkguitar if you took offense. So, 330 +gear, AZ heat, elevation, and 10% ethanol, its pretty clear to me now why your bike was pinging. Either way its still a new 50 state EPA rig, should have been corrected by the dealer under warranty. My opinion. Irishmike,
XIED voltage splitters, do work as their advertising claims. You have a good idea about what you want to achieve but you need to address a couple more issues before you can make a final decision. Do you want your set up to just work without causing damage to your engine, or work well? How much money are you willing to spend? I dont pay a dyno guy to tune my wallet, I do my own tuning. I know the difference in how my bike runs with a good tune, and a band aid canned map. So my experience is that my bike is much more satisfying every time I get on it, having a proper tune as opposed to just running good enough. For the record Ive only used one tuning approach so Im really not qualified to talk tuning beyond my own 2006 88 SG with Kuryakyn Hi5 AC and ceramic coated 2010 FM head pipe with 2010 OEM muffler, home built fan assisted oil cooler, and PC III USB with DTT Twin Scan + WEGO IIID. Definitely not the perfect set up either, but its what I cut my teeth on learning how to tune my bike. Having a solid grasp of the fundamentals now, I will likely upgrade to a TTS MasterTune when I build my motor.
thanks for all the feedback -its an 04 rk custom-i think im gonna install the filter when it gets here and put some new plugs in and see how they look -like i said i dont want a rocket -just a nice exhaust note without overheating or damaging the motor -so ill see how the plugs look and see if i need a tuner or not [mightnt be a bad investment for the future any way]i have noticed that it ran better after 2 days riding after the pipes being changed ,maybe the system will compensate for the air filter change when it gets here too. ....thanks again all.......mike
