another thought, a dedicated purpose built 6 1/2 inch sub in a saddlebag lid run with 2 channels bridged and crossedover. wont be thunderous deep but should sound really clean without giving up any space.
That's an idea.
My whole theory is easy and affordable. A purpose made enclosure that adds depth to the stereo is much needed. Something that is easy to install and doesn't cost $400.
I'm almost about to just try one of these enclosures and just see what happens. I mean, you could probably find one used for $100. Wedge that guys in there and run your wires, see what ya get.
I am in the middle of doing this right now. I ordered this unit last night (http://www.vminnovations.com/Product...ubwoofer-.html)
my only real concern is the bass getting out of my trunk, but for $116.00 I'll give it a shot.
I have seen the one made for the HD trunk (can't remember the company that makes it) at $600.00 and un powered, I'll take my chances with the cheaper one. I'll have it done in a week or 2 and I'll let you know the results.
The wattage is a bit much, but if it works out ok I'll spend a little more and get something around 200 watts with better quality and put this one in my work truck.
I went to a car audio place and asked about mounting subs in my saddle bags.....The owner of the shop stressed to me that it would be a complete waste of money and he could not in good conscience take my money knowing it will not work.
There was a guy on here a couple years back that wrapped up over 3k in a bike system. It included an actual subwoofer and amp in one of the saddlebags. If I remember, his whole system was pushing over 1000 watts.
His report? Sounds great while parked......but as the environment is all open air, you really didn't get that good bass sound and feel, like you would in a car.
Just a thought a few years back I had a 1997 Yamaha Royal star I had 6x9s cut out in the top of the bags and went to a friends audio shop where we tried to put a sub on I used a 10 in MA sub and 200 watt amplifier in a box on the back of the bike on the rear fender sounded great with the engine off but when running the bass from the BUB pipes I had on it canceled the bass from the sub really could not hear it when running let alone while moving
That BOSS powered amp has horrible reviews..almost all have lost the amp within a few days.
I'd try the Kenwood or Lanzar model.
I've had really good luck with boss stuff in the past. I know everyone says it's low end stuff but, I put a boss 400w amp in the trunk of my 2010 FLHTK and over 2 years later it is still running and sounding strong. I tend to put more stock into personal knowlage than someone elses reviews. we'll see if it sounds good first and if it does, I'll up grade (maybe). it has a warranty, so if it fails I'll send it back and get a better one.
