I have a newbie question... I am getting ready to change the oil in the motor, primary, and tranny on my 2004 Road King. I was looking in the service manual and it says when you are going to check the primary chain and change the oil for the primary you are to remove the seat....dumb question but why ?
Also one more question...I am planning on using 20W50 Mobil 1 in all three holes. Is this correct ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
They probably want you to disconnect your battery or main fuse for safety reasons. Seems like they want you to do that for just about everything.
The oil is your preference. That can turn into a long debate.

1. Battery disconnect is usually 1st step for any/all maint., but if just changing oil - not necessary. Note to self...just don't start bike after oil's drained...
2. No, use the 20W50 for motor, GO for tranny (75W90 or 75W140) and HD formula + for primary (or Spectro Promary fluid).
Not to start an oil debate but yes, Mobil 1 20 w 50 is designed to be used in all three holes. Some use different oils in the tranny and primary but you are absolutely safe with the Mobil 1.
Thanks for the help
I am trying to learn all I can and do as much of the work as I can so I can get to know my bike and so I can save some $$ on maintainence. I called a dealer and to do the motor/tranny/primary they want $200 bucks, and an indy wants $140. Thats plenty of motivation to read the service manual and learn some things.
No need to remove the seat, & 20/50 is fine in the motor & primary, but use gear lube in the tranny. Oil will work, but you have some serious shear force in the transmission, so don't go light in there.
