I use Amsoil in the transmission (75W-140) and the crankcase. The stuff tests well, is reasonably priced, and I get it delivered to my door. The primary doesn't care for Amsoil ATF, so I use Drag Specialties Primary Fluid in there. I may try Formula + next change.
HD Syn3 is probably a pretty good oil, but it is made by the lowest bider for HD. Amsoil, Mobil, Redline, Royal Purple and many others are in the business of making lubrication products. There are many good synthetic oils out there and Syn 3 is probably in the lower half of the bunch. Having said that you can probably run Syn 3 and have no problems at all.
Pick one you like and that is easy to get a hold of and then ignore the rest of the oils threads you see. Mobil 1 15-50 is a great oil for the engine and is available at walmart and other auto parts stores.
+1
Amsoil, and or Mobil1 are the brands I use myself. The most important thing to remember is regular fluid changes, regardless of what type you decide to use.
I use Mobil 1 15W50 $6.77 a qt at Wally World. It's just as good if not better than Amsoil. I get less engine noise with Mobil 1. Advance Auto has Mobile 1 20W50 V-twin on sale. If you look at all the Amsoil test, Mobil 1 is usually somewhere near the top.
You can save money with amsoil if you go to their website and sign up to be a preferred customer. Its $20 a year but I saved that in one purchase because you get the oil at wholesale prices when you become either a preffered customer or a dealer. Just an FYI if anyone cares.
