Default Need insight for Dad

My dad is looking at a 03 heritage w/ less than 10,000 miles for 9900. I think he should get a road king. I've never had either, anyone have insight on compared models. He's wanting to spend around 10k.

It's his money, he can't go wrong with either bike. The Road King is more comparable to your bike, but Softtails are nice rides too.

If he is not going to be eating up a lot of highway miles every year and is looking to cruise back roads and blast around, the Heritage will be a nice ride. He'll sit in the bike more than a Glide and the couterbalanced motor will have little to no vibration.

Whatever he decides, be it glide or heritage, for 10k he'll most likely be getting a 88" with a 5 speed and it's in his best interest to get one that has had either the gear driven cams or new hydraulic cam tenioner setup. Or one with very low miles that he can get some miles out of before addressing that issue with the stock 88's.

Heritage is probably better for this model year.
Without the 103 and with the old (pre-2009) frame, RKs should be avoided, in my opinion. And for all you who own them, I'm not trashing your rides. Merely stating my preference.

Heritage.
a. It's what HE wants.
b. Unless he plans on being on the road full time he doesnt need it. And if he is, he needs an EGC.
c. It's easier to handle (he's probably not 21 years old anymore).

He asked about the valves being adjusted. Is this required maintenance or adjust as needed? Mine was already over 10k when I got it.

The valves do NOT need adjustment.

I've had a RK and rode 2 of my friend's Heritage and I would go Heritage hands down. If I could have 2 bikes in the old garage it would be my SG and a Heritage.

If he wants a great ride, then go with the "TOURING" bike. I'm sorry but the counter balanced engines DO VIBRATE!!!
