I have installed aftermarket rims and rotors on my bike. Front brakes have a "pulse" when stopping or slowing. Upon visual inspection...one of the rotors appear to have become warped .. anyone else having this problem ? Bike has Brembo factory brakes..Any guess as to why this is happening ?
If they are new rotors, they are defective or more likely damaged, but than again an aftermarket wheel may have an issue with the hub not seated properly in the wheel. the pulse you feel is the pads being pushed in and out each time they go over the bent or high spot.
The front and rear disc brakes on my 09 RK both have a
slight pulse to them and the dealer said their okay. I think it's very poor quality for something that has so much control over the handling of the bike at slow speeds. I'm getting more use to it but I can't imagine that this is how they are designed to work. Practicing slow speed manueavers while using the rear brake is very irradick and difficult. I would like to find out if there is anything I can do to have smooth brake operation.
Anyone telling you a "slight pulse" in your brakes is OK, should never work on your bike. Warped rotors can be a result of the pistons hanging up from dirt and crud buildup on them. Uneven wear of the brake pads is a sign of this condition. I clean my caliper pistons or at least inspect them every oil change. Once the rotors are warped, they will only get worse along with your brake pads. Harley sells a new o-ring piston kit when you remove the pistons from the caliper for cleaning, there are instructions in the kit. If you find the pistons pitted, discard them and get new ones.
Took mine in last week with 6500 miles and pulsating front brake. They checked them and they were out of tolerance and ordered new rotors for the front. The rear had already been done ay 3500 miles. Both warranty. Dunno whats going on with them but I do have ABS and have never had to really apply them hard.
What kind of rotors are they? There was just a post eariler this week on problems with RC components rotors. They were the two piece bolt together style. I guess the are going back to a floating rotor.
