I just scheduled an appointment for Thursday afternoon. I'll report back with the details. So, just wondering if I'm being too observant or is this really an issue? When you apply throttle is there lag, and then a "catch", or is it just like a car where it's solid all the way through.

Hard to tell how much slack you are experiencing just from your description but if it is a lot, like the chain tensioner isn't doing anything, when you had the compensator replaced maybe the tech didn't remove the tie wrap. When you install the compensator you need to tie wrap the tensioner to remove the chain, clutch, etc. - it would be easy to overlook.

Nah - chain wouldn't slide over tie wrap too long before it cut thru. Of course if they used the lock tool instead of a tie wrap it could happen.

Put the bike in 1st gear, engine running. Front brake applied. Slowly let the clutch out slowly. What happens?

When does the front of the bike begin to dive? How far out is the clutch lever?

Now - with engine turned off rear brake applied only, 1st gear engaged, clutch out (ie not pulled in at lever). Move back and then forward. How far if at all can you move the bike?
