Everybody has one or two on their bike. Mine came from the same screw, only my bride watched it happen. -after she warned me about protecting the gas tank.
I just went over it with a sharpie. Hid it pretty dang good. I know it wont last but I feel better now. Wife caught me with the sharpie. Now she knows! Crap, can't blame her now.
I just fueled up my new RKC for the ist time, and the nozzle slipped and gas ran all over the tank. I hate when that happens! Always afraid it gonna do a number on the tank!!
If its not too deep wet sand it with 2000 grit then a little rubbing compound followed by wax.
H-D sells (an incredibly over priced) bottle of touchup paint and clear coat. I would use it before hitting it with the 2000 grit.
I was removing the running boards on my RKC. I couldn't get a good pull on the Allen wrench from the right side so I went to the left side of the bike and swung the handlebars to move the wheel out of my way. What the F.. was that horible screeching noise??? I left the Allen wrench sticking out of the bolt and it scraped all the way across the fender. It took many coats of touchup paint a clear coat and several hours with 2000 grit on a sanding block, followed by polishing with the swirl & scratch remover. You can't tell it was even there, and it was friggin deep. It worked so good I fixed the dent I put in the tank during my other brain fart. That's a story for next time... <G>

That's what I was going to tell you to do. I use a Blue one on my F150 all the time.
I just did the same thing to mine. Quixx will get most of it out, but I do have touch up paint on order and I'll be taking my time getting paint laid into the scratch and sanding it with 3500 grit.
