Just test road a 2010 RG Custom.. Sweet bike.. Obviously the turd of a windshield on it produced massive buffetting. I'm interested in picking one up, however want to know a few things.
Does anyone have a pic of their RG with a different windshield on it, that retains the cool looks, but provides a better wind tunnel from buffeting?
I love the bike, but DONT love the looks with a tall windshield on it.. If I can't retain the cool factor, I'm going SG.. But the ride was so smooth and nice with the fixed fairing, I'd like to see what solution there is out there..
Also, I have an 06 SG, and the buffeting on the 4" is much better than this RG.. Do you think it has to do with more than just the windshield, ie: the fairing engineering?
Also, maybe no windshield would produce more clean air? or at least a much smaller one? Even so , I'd like more protection than a smaller one, just wondering.
here is the harley part # 57000063. wont make up for a taller windshield but when used with one thats out the wind that comes up from under the fairing.
I just bought a 2011 Road Glide Custom. I have looked at serval websites and forums on a different windshiel for my bike and I'm starting with a 12 Windvest in dark smoke. It isn't to tall and provides good protcetion. I'm 6ft and have a 33 in inseam.
I have a short Klockwerks shield on my 2009 RG that I think is 6 1/2". I wear a full face helmet 95% of the time and never have a buffeting problem. If I wear my half helmet the visor is just at the level to catch the wind coming off the shield and I do get some buffeting.
The shield looks great and I am very pleased. I am 6'1".
Both of your criteria, perceived buffeting and coolness, are highly subjective. Don't really know how much real help it is to gather a bunch of opinions, but I'll play along.
This is my scoot with a 12" tinted Klock Werks. I think it works well. BTW, I also have those $30 deflectors installed.
