The connector is located on the fairing bracket near the right speaker.
Yeah, I'm trying to think back when I did mine and just having trouble coming up with any reason why the right side switches wouldn't work.

When checking the connections from the right side, make sure you look at the metal pins inside the connectors. Make sure they are all even with each other, sometimes one will push back towards the harness. If you find one pushed back gently push it back into the connector, you should feel it pop back into place.

Not sure about a 2000 model, but until I changed the bars on my 2009, that wiring bundle was run outside the bars. If that's the case, it should be easy to trace. I've never heard of anyone losing everything on one side. It sounds like the entire plug is loose.
