Just got a new street glide and I would like to get some passing lamps.
Which ones would you suggest? Also are these something the average tool guy can do.
I was hopeing that Harley would make something that would be plug and play.
Thanks
Shortleg
I just bought passing lamps today for my SG. Got the ones in the HD catalog. Don't have the book handy right now to give you the part#.
The dealer told me that I needed to buy new turnsignals. Don't fall for that one. The directions say to reuse the existing signals. As far as insalling yourself, that was my intention but after reading the directions which kept on refering you to the HD service manual I decided to let the dealer install them. You have to take the front fairing off which is no big deal but you also have to remove the ignition switch to install the light switch.
I don't have the patience I once had in my younger days and besides, I'd rather be riding.
I got the custom brackets and the smoked halogens for mine. I got punked by the dealer on the turn signal issue; I found out you can reuse the originals. But I plan to use the guts from the originals to make the rear signals act as riding and passing lamps.
You don't necessarily have to install a switch. You can wire directly off the low beam hot off the head light. That way when you flip the high beam switch, the passing lamps will shut off like the stock glides are set up.
There isn't much to it.
I reused the exisiting turn signals, and went with the new design, like the SE version without the ugly bar. Very sleek addition to the bike and IMHO they add to the look of the front of the Street Glide.
I think HD only offers one for the SG's, no bar connecting them together but mount on the sides replacing the turn signal bracket. I installed my own, nothing to it really, it is a plug and play deal. The only thing you really referance your manual for is taking the switch apart which is easy and you dont need any special tools. I say do the installation yourself and save the money the stealer would charge you to buy mo chrome
Yes, can someone who has installed this rig on a street glide please confirm part numbers from HD? I believe it is 69227-04A but would like a confirmation from someone who has already purchased and installed it. There are also many options for hardware and lenses but that can be figured out pretty easily if the main assembly number is accurate.
The HD website also has two different hardware kits shown for this accessory with the same exact part number and two different prices????
