I'm getting ready to reinstall my CATLESS head pipe on my 11 Limited and was wondering what the proper procedure was as far as tightening the flange nuts and what the torque specs are. I don't have a service manual yet. Any help would be appreciated.
I just did this this past weekend. I followed the procedure in the HD service manual. From memory (someone may want to check me on this):
Tighten the lower nut on the rear flange to 9 to 12 in lbs
Tighten the top nut on the rear flange to 100 to 120 in lbs
Tighten the lower nut on the rear flange to 100 to 120 in lbs
Tighten the lower nut on the front flange to 9 to 12 in lbs
Tighten the top nut on the front flange to 100 to 120 in lbs
Tighten the lower nut on the front flange to 100 to 120 in lbs
Had a local shop cut the pipe in half. Removing all the CAT material is a pain. Then had a local welder put it back together. Took probably 3 to 4 hours to remove all the CAT and clean it all up.
