Harbor Freight has a container with about 12 bungies and usually on sale. Have used these for several years with no problems. And to protect the chrome on my rack, I went to Lowes and for like 2 bucks, bought the foam pipe insulation. Get the 1/2 inch size. This stuff is either 6 or 8 feet long and slit down the length. And has sticky stuff in the slit to keep it on. I cut several 3 inch pieces of this and put iit on the chrome tubes of the rack. Protects it's well from marks. Ya might have to open the hooks on the bungies up a bit to fit over the foam.

I always carry a roll of Velcro One Wrap with me when traveling. Can be used to secure most anything and doesn't require a buckle or hook that might scratch your paint - sticks to itself and doesn't come loose until you remove it. Cuts to length so no loose ends flapping in the breeze. If you wrap the soft side of the hook-and-loop around your secure-point, no marring of your show chrome. I've used it to secure luggage, trailer wiring, leather/rain gear, etc.

Sams Club sells a nice assortment of the wide bungee cords. The ones that are like 3/4" wide and 1/8" thick. Color coded for length and best of all the wire ends are encased in a nice plastic hook. I will never use the old style bungee cords again. The blue ones are my favorite length and best of all they are cheap. The whole kit is less than $20

These compression straps along with a cargo net worked well on my trip to Sturgis last summer. The straps are very high quality & adjustable so you can fit them with just the right amount of tension - high strength plastic buckles instead of hooks.

This is what I ues http://rokstraps.com/moto.html no metal hooks and can be tied very tight I also install the HD passeneger grab rail on my bike when taking a long trip provides good support for large items, prevents it from sagging onto the saddlebags.
