Sounds like it could be normal. At idle my gauge shows almost 0 PSI, has since the bike was new.

if you have an 03 like in your sig , you don't have a 96" motor you have a 95" and the tensioners must be checked.

Thanks, Bill03E, for that info. Both I and the original owner thought it was a 1584 cc Screamin' Eagle. At least that is what the factory production sheets show for this bike. Was supposed to have been sent to the Screamin' Eagle department to have the 1584 cc engine package put in, bike was ordered as a 1584, and sold to me as a 1584 cc. The mystery deepens...
I'll have to get in touch with the dealer for more investigation!! Makes a big difference if it is a 95, because it has the same cam tensioners, as you pointed out.
I'll post what I find out about this engine later!

Up to 06 had the crappy tensioners and they have to be checked, they last about 20k to 30k miles, if they come apart they can take your engine out. When changing your oil cut your filter open, if you see any orange bits of plastic you have a problem, the plastic can clog small oil passages and also ruin your oil pump causing engine failure. I put a oil pump spring kit in my 1999 EG 88 tc for better oil pressure, it helps to get more oil to the top of the engine and reduced my engine noise when hot quite a bit.

Thanks for the feedback, folks! As always, the forum is a wealth of info! I'll be checking the tensioners right away.
