Arizona Riders- need advice
Highly suggest north to Sedona, south to Tombstone (do backroads in the Tombstone to Nogales area) and of course you can't miss Tortilla Flats.
Enjoy the trip, wife and I had a blast.
more "bike parking" than "bike riding".
cyclerides.com is a great collection of rides in the dayride section.
I like to head north out of PHX- see some route 66, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Mexican Hat Utah, maybe Natural Bridges ( Utah), 4 Corners, Canyon de Chelly---stop at the corner in Winslow Arizona, then back to PHX.
That could have you out for 3 good days of riding, 2 overnights.
PM me if you want route details.
Tombstone- tourist trap
Sedona, nice and nice road MIDWEEK- weekends many of our better roads are clogged with motorhomes, trailers, boats on trailers and all manner of slow moving traffic with overflowing septic tanks on the uphills...and non functioning signal and brake lights.
Arizona truly has some of the best riding in the USA, realize that it WILL be hot, even up North at altitude ( 8000' in Flagstaff) it may not be as hot but the dry air will wick moisture from your skin, and the sun will cook you.
drink a liter of water an hour, maybe gatorade or better, pedialyte every couple of gas stops. sunscreen up, best to cover bare skin, I wear a light coloured nylon jacket with vents ( H-D switchback).
