You can tell by the answer's in this thread, how many have taken motorcycle safety course's. They teach you to use the kill switch. It also says in your owner's manual to use it. wonder why??? I always use the kill switch first and then the ignition switch because a lot of parking area's here in the mtn's of Tennessee aren't level and I can hold my front brake while hitting the kill switch. I also leave my bike in gear for safety. we don't have a parking brake like the trike's do. JMO
I can't imagine why you would ever need to use the kill switch unless the motor was racing out of control and it was a quicker alternative to the ignition switch, or if the ignition switch wouldn't turn the ignition off, both of which being very low probabilities. I see friends first hit the kill switch then the ignition switch as a ritual, which is redundant, although I don't put anyone down for doing it. Personally, I don't recall ever using the kill switch for anything.
