I posted yesterday about my new 103" Street Glide. I have a couple of questions about the current setup I'm running. I have SERT with a stage 1 air kit and a set of Rinehart 4" slip ons. I'm impressed with the power and it runs great. The Rineharts have a good sound and were much more cost effective than a full exhaust at this point.
My previous experience was with my 09 Street Bob which had a PCV, stage 1 air kit and a set of Bub Lakesters 2 into 1. That Dyna screamed with that setup and it seemed to be very reliable.
I went with a SERT on the 103 because I've heard so many good things about it. Any reccomendations on future engine mods. I'm not looking to make my Street Glide a hot rod, but I want to have plenty of go power when I want it, not that I'm unhappy, to the contrary it runs great now and the acceleration is surprising for how much heavier the bike is than what I'm used to riding. Any suggestions or comments?
Yeah I was thinking about cams. What cams would you guys reccomend? I've heard good things from my buddies that have Woods cams on their bikes, but I also heard the SE 255's are good cams as well. Whats the best for my set up that gives good power through out the whole power band?
Famous question... Famous answer is "it depends on how you ride".
Personally, and this is just my opinion, I'd choose something other than the 255. It's a great low end torque cam, but in a 103" and the Houston heat, I'd probably choose something that closes the intake a little later to bleed off some of that cylinder pressure.
I have the Andrews 54H in my 105" and like it a lot. The Wood 6-6 and 555 are really popular choices these days and have shown to respond very well to head work. T-Man and HeadQuarters have some good bolt in cams as well.
I'm sure you noticed, but Fuel Moto is a very popular vendor if you are leaning toward a Wood cam and have had some really impressive results with the HD 103" engine.
Yeah, the great cam debate is one that everyone has a different opinion on. I have friends with the Woods 555 and another buddy with the SE 255's. I'm leaning towards the Woods cams just because of all the good things I have heard. Thanks for the help and I will continue to do my research and hopefully pull the trigger after the summer.
