Kajun - I just made the move from a Softail Custom to a Road Glide Custom.
Don't give up on the Glide. I had the same issue with buffeting, I ended up getting an 8" Windvest. It made a big difference at speeds under 50, but still have buffeting above 50 mph. I did notice there's more buffeting with a full face helment than there is with a half helmet.
I plan to get a taller windshield for longer hauls.
No need to **** & moan about minor alterations that need attention....
You didn't actually think it was going to fit like a latex glove, did you ???
I bought a generic shield from a seller on ebay....perfect fit first try, and only
$42 plus $16 shipping.
Going on my 3rd year with this shield........
Relax and enjoy the test fitting episode....its an adventure to say the least.
...... i wouldn't give up on the Road Eye, period.
.... Suck it up & suffer the buffet back to the dealer to get a pair of those clip-on wind deflectors HD now sells & order a set of HogChops.
... Combine that w/your choice of a recurved windscreen & you'll have the badass, long rider you're wanting.
I think I kept my stock windshield about 1 week, found a seller on e-bay, and for about $50 I've been happy since. (The company is in SC, believe it may be called CC cutoms or something similar).
I find with a roady lowers are a must to kill most of the buffeting. I've tried many different windshields and have had the most success with windvest, looks and function.
The windshield is the least of your worries with that model. Shocks suck, seat sucks, fairing speakers suck, radio bracket is grinding through your outer fairing and it wobbles around 40 mph with your hands off the bars rubbing the tears out of your eyes from crying about buying it. I would if i was you stuff a gas soaked rag in the gas tank and torch it. And i forgot to mention that a 96'' is very weak mounted in that model.

like all the other said its all in the windshield..the testing process is a battle im 6 ft with a 32 inseam and i went with clockworks first..it was worse than the stock shield...running a 12 windvest now great for all around riding if i was going cross country the 14 would be better....
