12" Windvest knocks the top end down to 88 mph and a 14" would be about 77 mph on that model that is why they put the small windshield on it. What about the 12'' air shocks? You can get the same ride from two 12'' pieces of 1/4'' x 1''wide steel plates mounted on the shock mounts. And it still wobbles when you let go of the bars to wipe the tears.

Wind buffering comes from below the fairing primarily. I had the same issue when I installed a removable faring on my road king for $75 you can solve most of your issues. I am planning on trading in my king for a road glide this winter and have already researched this in depth.

Kajun,

So what's the latest? You think you're still gonna take it back or try some different options? Check out Roadgliderick's bike. Throwing up some evil apes keeps that slicked out custom look.

Most of the guys who don't have buffeting problems are either guys with necks the size of a tree stump or guys that don't wear helmets. Experiment with a few shields (test ride em if you can so you don't drop a ton of money) keep searching on here for what other guys have done. Don't give up on it. It's a great looking bike.

With the shorter windshield on the custom the buffet shouldn't be that bad. I really had a problem with the 2009 stock windshield on my RG, but I changed it for the HD custom windshield which made a big difference for me.

I haven't noticed the slightest change with the lowers or the deflectors in terms of wind management. I have to wear a full face b/c w/ a shorty helmet I can't breath. Something about the way the air comes over my 8" KW. On a long interstate ride if I'm really moving about 80 or so I'll need advil which is precisely why I avoid them b/c I like the short windshield and wind in my face (as much as I can get w/ a FF helmet). It's the evil I choose to deal with. The taller the shield, the less air you'll feel.

The Road Glide Custom is for cruising around town, it ain't worth a **** out there on the open road "as is". To make it truly road worthy, you have to make some aerodynamic improvements including a taller windshield, wind deflectors and possibly lower fairings. It may not be the look you were going for but it makes one hell of a tourer.

Sanchos wings work pretty well along with the silly little HD baffles that go above the engine guard in front of the fuel tank. A tall windshield will work wonders too but some don't like the look.
