Default grip loose

Put the monkey bars on today with PM Renthal grips and the throttle grip is loose. What is the trick to solve this?

I reckon it somewhat depends on what year we're talking about. If you have throttle cables, did you adjust the cables appropriately? If you have TBW, did you make sure it's seated on the cog properly and in the groove inside the housing?

are you talking about the movement in and out or rotationally. There is a lot of in and out movement. I have thought about shimming it with foam to take some of the play out.

I have 2011 RKC, Carlini bars, PM Contour Grips. Yes there is some in and out movement. Not sure you can do much with it. I got used to it. I haven't heard that there is any major issues with the loose grip..yet. If you do figure something out.. let me know.

I had the same problem when I changed bars and grips. The twist grip sensor has a little in and out play that seems to be spring loaded which pushes outward on the splined end. I loosened the clamp with the brake fluid reservoir. I pushed it inward pulling the grip up the bar as far as it would go and held it there until I re-torqued the clamp. This worked so well that when I twisted the throttle it wouldn't snap back. So had to re-loosen the clamp and slide it towards the grip ever so slightly until the grip was loose enough to snap back. Then I re-torqued the clamp.

That's what I did. That won't always work though, depends on the bars and the grips. I know some people who got some slick tape (sticky on one side, something like Teflon on the other) and wrapped a couple turns around the bar (up close to the housing) before putting the grip on, that works too.

I have an 02 Flht w/carb, I believe cables are adjusted properly, I realize by pure nature of design it has to be loose but it now is loose enough to rattle at idle

Default Loose PM grips, for Fly By Wire

What I did was to place come very strong Teflon tape close to the left end of the throttle grip, to take up the looseness. Maybe two or three raps.
