Hi, I have to change my rear tire. The one I actually have is the original Dunlop. Run with it about 7500 miles, still in acceptable conditions but always had serious problems with rain or wet roads. Any advices for another brand that has a xtrmly good grip when raining? Avon? Metzler? Michelin? Pirelli? I need to find a "secure" tire for a smooth way of driving. Thanks. Marco
I'm running the E-3 in front but put a larger MU85B16 Michelin Commander on the rear. Fits good and so far the handling is good. Hasn't been on long enough to tell you how long it will last. Has a 77 weight rating and got it on sale @ jakewilson.com for $59.00.
Actually, out of all of those mentioned above, teh new Dunlop 407 and 408 are the best. I wonl;t buy Michelin as they are a French tire and I say F them. I have been on all the other tires and it seems Dunlop finally got a tire right. I had 15,000 miles on my first set and they still had lots of tread left, no cupping and they handled wet and dry conditions fantastically. I put a secong set of these on when I changed them and have never looked back. I will buy these again as they have given the best mileage and performance of any bike tire I have tried on cruisers and touring bikes
avon has a reputation for being very sticky but comes in short on milage, the dunlop e3 is a big improvment in handling and should outlast the 402,metzler real close to the e3 in my opinion.cant comment on pirelli, got tired of cypherin out the sizes and load ratings so havent tried those yet.
Avon, Metzeller and Pirelli are all good smooth tire but the mileage sucks....DUnlop D402 stock last pretty good but not the best riding..Michelin commander does pretty good, in my opinion a bit better than D402 Dunlop Elite III last long ...might get a bit of cupping handles very nice...Depends what yo can get in Luxembourg....Est-ce que tu est Francais la?
Dear All thanks for all these advices...
Basically Dunlop is winning, then Michelin and maybe Avon & Metzler. No Pirelli (even if Metzler belongs to Pirelli Group). Still not convinced which to mount... Luxembourg could be really wet and cold so I need a really good tire even if I have to change it often.
Nope I'm not French neither English or Luxembourgian...
But I do ride a red 2008 FLHR Special Edition for Firefighters
