Default 2005 Road King Classic Primary Leak

Hey everyone. I picked up a 2005 Road King a little while back, and I noticed some primary fluid on the floor in my garage. Looking under the bike, at first I thought it was the primary cover gasket, but on closer inspection, it seems like the fluid is coming from behind the inner primary cover. Here is a video, I figured a video would be easier to help diagnose (I know the video is sideways, sorry, thought my phone would flip it, too lazy to redo it). Its not the O-ring, and I am having trouble figuring out exacty what is leaking when comparing it to the digital service manual I have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys. Oh, and dont mind my screen name, it was from when I had a softail standard a while back...I have obviously since moved on up!

Shifter shaft seal? I'd pull the primary and change all the seals. Go back with the Cometic double lip seal.

Looking through the service manual i have (a digital copy) its hard to tell what is going to be the procedure. In order to do this, I ma going to have to take off the primary cover, and remove the clucth and sporcket? or can I access the seals I need to by just draining the primary fluid, and taking off the cover. Thanks.

It all has to come off. You have to drain the fluid and pull the cover, lock the sprockets with a bar, remove both clutch hub and compensator, remove the oblts holding on the inner primary and the starter bolts from the other side, pull the inner primary and then you will see what needs to be done.

HERE is a thread (starting from page 3) that shows some good homemade ways to take apart some things that you need to take off. On page 4 it shows a nifty way to remove the shifter shaft seal.

The only thing I would add is covering the splines on the shifter shaft to protect the new seal from damage. Tape works and is cheap. I use heat shring tubing and then cut it off after the new seal is on. I also use a deep socket that is the size of the seal to tap the new seal in.

Hey guys, after reading through the linked post above, I pulled the outer and inner primary. Like you said, it looks to me like the shifter shaft seal is the culprit. Besides the starter jack shaft seal, the O-ring for the inner primary, and the outer primary gasket, is there anything else I should be replacing? I know some people mentioned the inner shifter linkage was problematic, but I dont know if that is limited to certain years or what. I have some close up pics of the leaking area. Thanks again for the help, without the link I would not have gotten this far.

I'm new here, and I noticed a leak on the back of my primary, 2006 Street Glide, it only has 11000mi on it, and I bought it last year and it had 5900mi on it, is this common on a bike that has such low miles? I have a picture but I'm not sure ho to post it? I appreciate any and all help with this matter.
