Default Baffle install/wrap job

I just installed my comp baffle (rt. side only) from FM and have a couple of questions about the install. After pounding out the stock baffle, I removed the packing which stayed in tact and was in good shape. So, I tried to reuse it as is. I just slid the new baffle as far up inside the wrap as possible. When it got to the end it wouldn't fit through and the packing started to come unraveled so I just cut off the last 3 or 4 inches off without retaping the end tight (didn't know what type of tape to use).

1. Will leaving the end untaped with loose packing be an issue? I know the baffle seals at both ends, but didn't want to leave it if it's an issue.

2. Will using the dyno tuned wrap/packing on a competition baffle be any different than using the supplied (loose) packing on performance/sound?

3. I assume I was supposed to reuse the "sleeve/wrap" part of the packing and stuff the supplied "loose" packing in between that and the baffle if I had used it?

4. It seemed there was a tightly wound part of the original packing that held the loose material. Is this something I would or wouldn't have needed if I had just used the bag of loose packing included?

Just trying to learn what I can as I am baffle illiterate and this is my first time to do this. Thanks for the feedback.

You can use any kind of tape you want it will just burn off. You don`t have to use the packing, I didn`t.
