If you could not see past the truck then you double your follow distance and do your best to get out from behind him. He may not even know you went down then as lots of peoples dont always check their mirrors. The more this plays out the more it sounds like this one is your fault. Too many guys ride bikes like they drive their cars, can't do that. All the same I am sorry your daughter had to go down too. I rode alot with both my son and daughter on the back and would have really felt terrible is something happened to them. Hope you both heal fast. In the future always try to have a way around an object, steer your way out of trouble and stay off the brakes. Standing on the brakes is one of the worst things you can do on a bike. To avoid it extend your follow distances, always expect that cage to stop suddenly for no reason at all, or expect them to turn left in front of you, expect them to cut you off, expect them to back out of their driveways in front of you cause they will all the time while making eye contact with you. I watch guys all the time when they come up on an intersection or someone waiting to pull out and they never even tap their brakes much less back off the gas and most cases wont even look sideways at the cage that is probably gonna hit them. So if you get back on the bike just remember cages are out there with one purpose and that is to run you over.
thanks for the well wishes...
I'm sure I'll heal, as for my daughter she only had a sprained wrist...
Bike had minimal to no damage.. on too ride another day...

It can happen to anybody....I was cruising at 25 mph...ambulance (no lights on) behind me...kid on a cell in an suv wanted in parking lot to my right...t-boned me. Said she did not see me. 11 surgeries and 18 months later got out of a wheelchair...month later bought my current SERK...I ride better than I walk with canes.

I have heard a lot of people try to figure some way it was my fault...I guess they just don't want to think it could happen to them. Makes them somehow feel safer if they can blame the rider...what we do, ride, is exhilarating and dangerous...it is why we do it...for the feeling. But sometimes stuff happens.

Just glad you and your daughter were not hurt worse.

Heal well.

This is exactly the reason I added a BAL taillight.

Sometimes I take my daughter out on the bike too, and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I have every advantage to prevent some idiot from not seeing me.

Glad to hear that it wasn't worse for you.

Gotta love it when people that weren't even there are telling you what you did wrong. Guess they're perfect. Anyway, glad you and your daughter are okay and I pray for a speedy recovery for you both.

I feel truly sorry for the injuries you and your daughter have to deal with! I ride with my 14 and 11 year old daughters and have been doing so for 3 years, (although I've had lots of moments debating the idea in my head). I agree that there are a few guys on here that should keep their "accident reconstruction training" to themselves and just support a fellow rider in shi!!y time. PERIOD God speed, full recovery for both, and better luck in future rides!
