This is less that half the recommended safe following distance.

Ok well I maybe off on the car length but I know I am consistently checking my distance and I was at or more than the 2 seconds minimum.

The first lead-time is the 2-second following distance. It is considered to be a minimum distance when conditions are ideal.
That is from the Basic Riders Manual from the MSF. Conditions on the day of my accident were ideal and I was on a 4 lane divided highway in light to moderate traffic with a 55 MPH speed limit. So enjoy all the math and try to be the armchair accident recreation teams that all of you want to be end result was not that I or the OP was following to close, it was that we were CUT OFF BY ANOTHER VEHICLE.

Regardless I wasn't at fault nor was the OP so have a nice day!!!!

ahh. That situation sucks. I always fear the cutting in/braking. I know I can stop quick enough, but fear for the people behind me. I leave plenty of room on the highway in front of me. If people want to keep passing and filling in, fine. I'll just let more space open up again. I'll keep waving them to go around if they are too close behind too.

'There are those who have and those who will' no matter how good a rider you are. And I'll be damned if I'll sit here and type my 'shoulda, woulda, coulda' crap. I wasn't there. So instead of giving my 'professional' (more like unprofessional) opinion, I will simply say I'm glad you and your daughter are both going to be ok and hope you can get back on the road soon.

Default Update...

Well it's been about three and a half weeks since my accident and I'm healing up fairly well, still have a lot of pain especially at night.. I worry abot the pain meds I'm taking, Vicodin and Soma as they are known to be addictive, with out them I would not be able to gain mobility back in my shoulder let alone the twisting motion you have to do when riding and watching cages.. My daughter is great, came out with a sprained wrist, but I hate to say she doesn't want to ride anymore, which saddens me because she really loved riding in the country around Bellville and hempstead... but hopefully she will come around.

I am having problems with dreaming about the wreck, waking up in a state of shock, so my sleep is hampered at night.. sleep ok during the day sort of...

I want to thank all of the well wishers for there acknowledgement, and best wishes, they brought my daughter to tears when she read them..

You people are the best, a real brotherhood, and i am proud to be a part..

THANKS, be careful out there...

Glad ya made out as well as you did. And the same for your daughter. I dont do any two up riding as my wife is a very very non biker. But I know I would feel so bad if I was and had an accident. Know you must feel pretty bad having your daughter invovled and hurt to any degree. Heal fast and hope you both getback on and enjoy riding and father/daughter bonding. As to the 'monday morning quarterbacking', dont take those guys seriously. Crap happens fast and ones never knows unless your there. AND...quit pickin your scabs!!!!

Sorry to hear about your accident but I'm more sorry to hear about your daughter being involved. As a father that loves to take my children on rides that is my biggest fear.

Hope you guys heal fast.

Mike
