This forum is great. I've noticed a "chirping" sound and it's been driving me nuts. I mentioned it at the shop (as my bike is there constantly - different story); but no comment from the service manager. Thanks to this forum I have a number of things to check.
Thanks guys.
I too have been fighting a chirp, It is driving me absolutely nuts. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the polylube, I'm gonna give it a try. GOD, I hope that's it.
Just wanna say previously I had a chirping and it quit after adjusting the clutch and then I put on a pair of Curved Radius and now when I shift at 3300+ it chirps. This leads me to belive that it would be a belt issue myself.
Mine started chirping today & loudly. I noticed it during decelleration. At first I thought it was another vehicle until it did it again at accelleration. I only noticed it between like 20 & 50 mph. I did run it up to 50 mph & killed the engine, then allowed to bike to slow down. It still did it. I figure this eliminates the possibility of egine/exhuast noise. I checked belt tension & it's gtg. Brakes are all new, less than 500 miles but I checked all the hardware. I'm thinking of trying this Poly Lube. The noise does appear to be comeing from the left side of the bike & at $4, it's not a gamble.
Any other ideas?
I got back on my bike this morning & the chirping was gone. I had a feeling if I got it good & hot, it would start to do it again. So I jumped on the highway for about 10 miles, then got back off. The chirp returned. I went to HD & got a tube of 'Poly Oil' #99860-81 for $3.95. I went outside & squirted some on my index finger & spread it thinly over the entire surface of the belt. Then I rolled the biked backwards about 5 feet & smeared a thin layer on that section of the belt. I jumped on & took off. No chirp. I got back on the highway for about 15 miles & when I got off, the chirp was still gone. I continued to ride about another 100 miles & the chirp did not return. Poly Oil seems to have did the trick.
My '06 Deluxe started doing the same thing today. Called my mechanic and he said he had tightened the tensioner (sp?) on the left side of the bike as it was a tad loose. He said it was no problem and would fade with use. Ergo, I'm not going to worry about it.
I actually found my chirp. it was the rubber button on the rear brake caliper up against the inside of the swing arm. sprayed some silicone lube on it and all is quiet.
Bike chirps like a spring sound while accelerating next to concrete barrier
I have a 2008 Fatboy bike sounds like a rock hitting a water tower on hard acceleration mainly when.. I'm next to a concrete barrier more like spring sound.. I can't describe it any more than like a spring sound coming from the left side of the bike by the primary. I'm thinking it's a bad compensator because I have problems on hot startups I bought the baker compensator along with the attitude adjuster .. manual chain adjuster because I heard there's major problems with the auto chain tensioner and I'll be changing them soon.. anybody pinpoint is problem maybe a chain that's too tight compensator that's no good any help is appreciated
