So who exactly emailed you this line of BS? You can do whatever you want to your new bike performance wise so long as you properly match components and make the appropriate tuning changes to the ECM to compensate. A Stage I upgrade like you are considering is very cost effective as far as waking up the 103 performance wise IMHO. Add a good set of cams and really wake it up. Mine was a Stage I before I went with a 107 build over the winter.

A small piece of truth in that email is that changing the spark plugs or stock wires can mess with the ion sensing anti-knock feature. So leave those alone.

What you might want to concern yourself with is what effect engine upgrades might have on your warranty. I opted to throw mine out the window.

I have an 11 limited, went with TTS canned tune for the SE255 cams I put in, plus Fuelmoto Jackpots with the quiet baffle, small baffle removed. A better air cleaner to round out the combo. Runs like a dream in the range I ride, 1500 to 5500 for on ramps, etc.. Really woke the bike up. I figure it is pulling over 100 ft lbs compared to probably 70 stock. Those numbers seem to show up on a lot of dyno sheets, and it sure feels like what I have.
