Default What is normal oil pressure?

I've got an 09 Streetglide. At idle, my oil pressure goes down to damn near 0psi. At normal riding engine RPM it goes 14-16, but drops low at idle. Also, on start up i get what I think is "lifter tap" for 2-3 seconds. I run synthetic, just had my 10,000 maintenance, and oil level is always good. Maybe I'm wrong, but just wanted any help. Thanks

When running 20/50 synthetic the oil is alot thinner than dino. I run Amsoil 20/50 @ start-up it's 32-35 psi @ idle. After 10-15 mins of driving it's about 15 psi and that's with a stock pump.

My 08 SG and 2011 CVO are the same. 10 psi at hot idle and 30psi at cruise. That's plenty. Zippers can furnish you with a spring (I think) to up the pressure. 14/16 at cruise isn't right.

The spring is not intended to be a bandaid and correct for a malfunction. First and foremost, check your gauge and go from there. Simple things first. You should run anywhere from around 8-14 lbs at hot idle 10 is about average on a stock engine and 25-35 running down the road with 30 being average. The Harley Gauge is not known to be the most accurate either. I'd test with a known good oil pressure gauge.

Not sure about the '09 but according to my handy dandy service manual for MY '08 FLHX with a 96ci motor, "Oil pressureshould be30-38PSI (207-262 kPa)at 2000 RPM and normal operating temperature". Of course there is no mention of different readings with dino or synthetic oils.

If you look closely at the gauge I think you see that you are running around 5 psi at idle which is fine.

You should be fine.

'07 Ultra, stock motor, 8 pounds at idle when temps outside are 100+, 32 pounds at cruising speed. Running conventional HD 25-50.

Thanks guys for the answers, I guess my idle is ok, but I'm not reaching that pressure at cruising speed.
