Went to custom wheel with single sided rotor and have ABS.
As I expected I lost some braking power but I don't ride loaded down to the gills. Using both the front and rear I can still stop on a dime.
I have the 11.8 rotor(the 13 may give you a little more braking but not much). 6 piston caliper. You factory master cylinder will work as long as it's 2008 or newer which is when they changed them I think. You have to change the brake line from the module to the caliper to a single line. You have to get the ABS module bled and recalibrated. Should take dealer about 2 hrs, mine did.
I know they're some people that will scream safety. Fact is the bike still stops and I 'm happy, I pay my bills and live my life, NOT you safety sam.
Wow, kinda defensive right off the bat aren't we? I think it looks good. Now if you removed the other rotor it would really show off that wheel. No safety comments from me, do what you want.
well i can add that with a 26" front wheel and 13" rotor/6 piston caliper, its stops great and the abs works. tested it last week to see if it would work or not with single rotor/large wheel.
Looks good. I don't know what size the tire is, but I'm not impressed with the current big wheel fad. Yours shows a thicker tire, which I think looks much better.
My 08 FLHX has the dual brembos and I rode a guys 09 FLHX with a 21 front wheel and a 13" single w/PM 6 piston, I thought it sucked *** for stopping power in comparison to the stock dual brembo set up with the stock front wheel. Looked great though.
umm, twin discs are not installed for more braking force, that can easily be achieved with more pistons in the caliper or a smaller master cyl.
Twin discs are installed for more braking capacity ie resistance to overheating and fade.
A single disc can easily provide enough force to lock the wheel, but on a long downhill mountain pass a single disc can overheat, fade and result in a loss of brakes. Especially if you are riding hard. If you are a cruiser then you probably wont notice the difference.
