I just bought a 2011 streetglide with the 103..i ordered a set of se 4" slip ons and a se power cone intake..im trying to save a couple bucks so if i install the slip ons and intake myself do i need to get the download from the dealership right away and if so, i live about 30 miles from the dealership would it be ok to install everything at home and ride it the 30 miles to get he download without hurting anything?
Go get a power pack setup from a non-harley source; fuel pak, power pak, whatever. But you WILL need to adjust your fuel. Just going over to the dealer will be ok; Just don't get on it hard at all. These things are really easy to install. You could easily set it up yourself. They have program 'charts' that tell you how and where to set things.
I've got Screaming eagle intake, and 3.5 Rineharts; with just the intake it needed an 'upgrade' to the stock Harley settings; had that done THEN added the power pak.
Bike was pinging something fierce-just not enough fuel was getting in for all the air and flow it gets now.
Had the fuel re-programmed and damn, its a whole new bike (SG, 103, 2011). Rineharts sound the best (BYMMV).
Yes ,take it easy & you can have the HD shop do a re_map. You can do a "search" on here & read that info for days & not figure out what to do. I did the re-map for my 07 FLHT STD & never had a problem. It's just like the "OIL" thing, which is the best. Good Luck with whatever you do.
If you can spring for the cash, get yourself a Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner, along with the software and cable kit. You can get everything you need for around $400. Then, you can load a calibration file that matches your setup (which is what the dealer would do and they won't do it for free). After that, you can start doing tuning runs in which the box will record data from your bike's ECM while you're riding. Then, when you get back, you can load the data in your PC, the program will analyze the data and recommend changes which you can then re-flash your ECM with. Every time you make a tuning run and re-flash, the bike gets closer and closer to being dialed in. If looks like about a half-dozen runs will be required for that. The entire process is really fun...you get to be involved in tuning your bike yourself. Most folks that have done this have been very pleased with the results. I'm about halfway through the process myself and already my bike is running really good and the decel popping has disappeared.
