Ya we stopped into Duffy's. We did alot of riding even though it rained alot. Put on alittle over 500 miles on. Friday was the best day we got to ride. Where are you located? I wear a brain bucket most of the time, but last years Americade I got pulled over and bitched at by the man so I used my 3/4 bell custom 500 (probably my mistake).
I have a Harley 10 on my electraglide along with a deep bucket sundowner seat and adjustable side wind deflectors. All is wonderful in the world. I got lucky and most of it was already there when I got the scooter because I bought it used. Well not the seat, I bought that because I hated the looks of the reach seat without the tourpack installed. But I am 5'9" so that might be the difference for me.
No bike comes perfect for every body style out of the factory. They just can't possibly do that.
Only time I have issues with wind is when I have a 20+ mph side wind for hours and hours. Then the only problem is with my ears. I end up with a mild headack. Ear plugs were the fix for that.
Another thing to try and sliding forward or rearward on the seat. Sometimes a slight change in distance from the windsheild will make all the difference in the world.
Ear buds hooked to an ipod make for a much more enjoyable long trip. The wind in your ears will wear you out over time. The earbuds cure that.
I thought this thread was going to be about aerodynamics instead of buffeting. I just went on a 700+ mile trip, and my mileage went down between 5-10 MPG depending on what part of the ride I was on. When I say down, normal riding does include HWY miles. Aerodynamics probably could be better. Hard to be believe no improvements have been made to the batwing over the years. It is what it is though and I love my hog. I didn't buy it for gas mileage. If I did I certainly wouldn't have upgraded my exhaust, air cleaner, and put a tuner on it.
On to the subject that this thread really seems to be about: Whateverybosy else has already said. Many types of shields and many heights to each type. Nobody is the same height, and even people of the same height don't have the same torso. Seats and riding position make a difference too. Deflectors can both help and hurt. Lowers may make a difference. Make the bike your own and play around till you get the result you want.
Helmet - I experience the same issue. Visor as mentioned, take it off, or do not wear helmet.
I like wind - more so coming at me, then up into me from below. I do notice that I get quite the updraft on my bike as well. What is out there to help with that updraft - and I have lowers already.

Updraft meaning the bike feels light in the front? Like it is being lifted off the ground? Klock Works windshield is supposed to help a lot with that.

No, not that kind feel, front feels good and solid, I just get a lot of wind force up from the gas tank area that hits me and grabs the helmet. Some days depending on weather and conditions are of course better/worse than others.
I have a 8" clearview windshield, my seat is 1.5" lower, the adjustable fairing deflectors, and a fork baffle. I have zero buffeting, wind but no buffeting. I wear a half helmet with no visor or no visor. No problem smoking a cigar while running 80-90. I use earplugs on long rides. We blasted (average about 85mph) back from the hill country last weekend, not a long ride, about 250 miles but was running in a strong cross wind. No issues. You need to fit the bike to you. I've never owned a bike that I haven't had to do that.

Buy fairing deflectors. I bet it'll fix what you are talking about. I keep them closed most of the time b/c I don't like the buffeting they can create but when you really need some wind on a hot day you can direct the wind exactly where you want it.
