I put the biggest shield Harley makes on my SG and the buffeting is gone. I still get plenty of air/wind from around the sides of the fairing and over the tank but it's not rattling my goggles.
If we're talking about aerodynamics, the bike is plenty aerodynamic...it's the rider that changes the way the bike resists the wind.
I considered that, then found that the fork deflectors aren't for bikes with lower fairings. I had another bike where a buddy made me some custom deflectors out of lexan but he's retired now.
This is just a small rant. I took my Electra Glide on its first long trip to Americade. The time I got to Americade I had pounding headache from getting smacked around from the wind turbulence. I could not even read the street signs. I had a Bell custom 500 helmet on. I had to buy a new windshield and fairing wind deflectors when I got there. Now after $200 it was tolerable. I almost rather ride my Lowrider instead at least its a straight wind. I know Harley does not give a **** about there customers but dam you have been using this fairing since what the 70's ? Don't get me wrong I love the bike. I love Harleys. It rides and handles great. Radio's great and storage is great. Just when you spend 20k for a bike you would think little things like this would not be over looked. I know stop my whining. Don't feed the troll. Americade was a great time everyone should try it out.
You just happened to have the right combination of height and helmet to experience severe buffeting. Changing the windshield is a good solution and no different than the rest of us who change windshields, handlebars, and seats to optimize our riding position and comfort. I'd say that if you fixed it with a $200 windshield, you got off cheap.
They might make a lousy motorcycle but the motor clothes are damn stylish
+++1......terrific, finally a good excuse to post pictures of my mighty fine made in China Harley jacket. Maybe my bike sucks but I look 'damn stylish' riding it.
I have them on my bike. You may have to bend the fork deflectors just a bit to clear the lowers at full lock. I bent mine just a slight bit and have full clearance. And yes the fork deflectors make a huge difference with buffeting.
Good info, I will look into these... Have a part# handy? :-) thanks.

And to the rest- we are talking about buffeting, not wind, if you ride, you would know the difference! ;-)
I am planning on the fork deflectors but may wait till winter. I tried the Freedom Wings and extra smaller deflector they sell but didn't see much difference on the 08 I had. Haven't tried them on the 09.
