Default SE Compensator I recommend

The SE Compensator has been talked about just about as much as the new frame on 09 and newer sleds...

I installed one on my 07 this past Saturday AM took me 2 hours and that included grinding the lip off the front edge of the inner primary so I could pull out the Alternator Rotor without taking off the inner primary cover and clutch (I did not want to pull my clutch because I have a Primo Rivera clutch).

Anyhow. I will confirm what others have said...What a great add to the "olé steed". Neutral? ~ no problem very sweet, Shifting? ~ sweeter than ever, Engine turn over? ~ awesome, and I have a 103 HQ that at times has caused me some serious pucker factor.

Cost me under $255.00 including 6% tax out the door.
SE Kit # 40274-08
Outer Primary Cover Gasket #34901-07
O-ring for drain plug #11105
1 quart oil (I use ATF) $3.00 ~ No I don't care what you use

Love the differance...makes the engine and trans feel like I'm sitting on something slicker than ****.

Indeed, you got it right... why they don't come from the factory with the SE unit is beyond me (mine failed at 5,000 miles BIG time, but the SE unit is the bomb)!

Is there something special about a Rivera clutch that makes it a PIA to remove? No sarcasm, I'm just curious.

Might want to check the fill capacity for primary when you pull the full primary outer case. On my 2010 it's 45 fl oz. (38 if the cover isn't removed).

If i was you i would'nt leave ATF in with that new SE compensator. Do a search on this forum or Harley tech talk, such as compensator woes. The SE compensator will start fretting in its bore very quick with atf and start tearing itself apart much quicker than with a heavier oil such as Formula plus. There also is a modification to the compensator gear to help getting lube into the bore. I have a Rivera primo pro with a lockup head in my primary and it works fine with the 40w Formula plus. My brand new SE compensator looked realy bad at 1000 miles with Redline MTL in the primary which is just like atf. Take a look at it after 1000 miles if you leave the atf in there you will see a rusty red goop coming out of the SE compensator bore which is fretting totaly starts chewing the SE compensator bore and spokes apart very quickly. I was glad to see a brand new SE compensator in the crate with the 120R i installed to replace the one that i put on the 96'' 1000 miles earlier. Clutch likes atf but compensator suffers severly, it needs a much different lubricant to survive.

I will be doing a friends bike in a week so maybe a picture of the grind should be taken. Your basically taking the casting down so it looks flush...kinda hard to explain, but you will quickly understand when you look at.

There are a few write-ups in here with great pic's on the swap-out. I stole this one off one of them showing the primary edge shaved so the original comp clears.
