If you set to "High" with a crossover of 100 hz., will you get a full range with the lowest frequency at 100 hz? If so, I assume "Low" is just the opposite, designed for subs. I have mine set to "Full" presently, but I can see how it might be easier on the speakers to set it to "High" with a crossover of 100 hz, as they likely can't reproduce lower than this anyway.
How do you get in touch with Elf when their website is a blank slate? They refer us to Act Mobile Video, but I see nothing about Elf amps there. Do you have any contact info?
It's kind of a weird website. If you click contact and then the Street Address, Call Us, Email Us then the info will show up for each one.

It is a weird site , you have to click on the tabs for the products too- I haven't spoke to Saad in a while, but he always responds to his email.

With the stock HK unit - I found set to FULL or less than the 100 freq while on HIGH - I got unpleasant distortion at higher volumes - you are right on with "they likely can't reproduce lower than this anyway." .. My Hertz 6.5's are great , but real Bass - aint gonna happen. It is a nice full sound for a motorcycle with just 2 speakers in my opinion..
Funny how we all hear sound different. I have a elf amp and have used it on stock head unit and a sony head unit with JM speakers. I also found 100-110 set on high sounded best with high. To me it sound like the sound was coming out a tin can on high. But found I preferd sound set on full. With gains set via volt meter. On some songs I could crank full volume with stock head unit. With the sony I am getting much better sound IMO. Head unit is going to make a difference on sound to.
Don't want to highjack this thread but I have been following this thread for all the good info. I have been thinking of redoing my set up again. And am on the fence about replacing the HK. For those of you that have, are the after market marine radios handling the abuse from being in a Harley ok?
The marine radios aren't built any more 'shock resistant' than a regular car stereo. I've had the 'flip out' for 3 summers, and it's still surviving. These things are built better than people think !!

Good luck with your choice !
thanks! what do you do for rain and washing? a splash cover?

Well, when my speakers come in I'm going to try it both ways and just take stab at which seems to sound better in the garage. As for gain, after reading an article on it the setting doesn't seem to matter, and I'll probably set it by ear and on the high side--as it is apparently little more than a volume adjustment for the amp and more gain means you'll have a better chance of being out of that distortion range with the stock head unit. I have mine set to about 1 o'clock now (13.5V for my 1.5Ω output), but with the Hertz speakers final impedance will be 2Ω (3Ω in parallel with the 6Ω Tweeter Pods), so I'll probably start at about 2 o'clock and set it by ear. Does anyone not concur with this method?

I've resigned myself to the realization that bass is not going to happen on a MC, unless that is we start going radical with subs in the saddlebags, etc. That won't happen here, and what I get with the Hertz speakers will have to do. I have considered speakers for the lowers, but I've never heard any enthusiastic feedback on these of any brand, so that's not going to happen either until such time that I hear rave reviews in multiples--and even then I probably won't do it. I may be done with accessory upgrades for this bike after 4˝ years, but I said that last year too.

You & me both --LOL! I think you will be happy - like you say & I have said (to myself) its a motorcycle - I have a great sound for the $$ I spent ..which is not much. The most expensive part was the Zumo 550 (I play my mp3s thru it as I said before..that helps boost the overall volume too)..and that is justified cuz I like to get lost when I ride ..plus with the club , it helps us find our destinations.
